Ingredients

  • ground sausage
  • bacon grease
  • onion
  • carrots

  • basil leaves

  • chicken broth
  • milk
  • Velveeta cheese

Method

    Place a large pot on the stove and add 0.5 pound of ground sausage. Brown the sausage, breaking it up with a spatula.

    Once the sausage is browned, remove it from the pot and set aside.

    Add 0.5 cup of bacon grease to the pot.

    Add 0.5 cup of diced onion to the pot.

    Add 0.5 cup of diced carrots to the pot.

    Add 0.5 cup of diced celery to the pot.

    Add 0.5 stick (4 tablespoons) of butter to the pot.

    Season with 0.5 tablespoon of basil leaves, salt to taste, and black pepper to taste.

    Sauté the vegetables until they are softened.

    Sprinkle 0.25 cup of all-purpose flour over the sautéed vegetables and stir to combine, cooking for a couple of minutes to create a roux.

    Add the diced russet potatoes to the pot.

    Return the cooked ground sausage to the pot.

    Pour in 4 cups of chicken broth.

    Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the potatoes are tender. Check for doneness by piercing a potato with a fork.
