Creamy Green Bean Casserole with Bacon and Mushrooms

  • Onion
  • Mushrooms
  • bacon
  • garlic
  • Salt
  • Black pepper
  • Parsley flakes
  • Rosemary
  • Paprika
  • All-purpose flour
  • Heavy cream
  • Chicken broth
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • canned Green beans
  • Crispy fried onions

Method

    Melt 0.5 stick of butter in a large pan over medium heat.

    Add 1 chopped onion to the pan and sauté until softened.

    Add 16 ounces of sliced mushrooms to the pan and continue to sauté with the onions.

    Once onions and mushrooms are browned, add 0.5 cup of cooked, crumbled bacon.

    Add 2 tablespoons of minced garlic to the pan.

    Season with salt, black pepper, parsley flakes, rosemary, and paprika to taste.

    Stir to combine the ingredients and spices.

    Add another 0.25 cup of butter to the pan.

    Once the butter is melted, sprinkle in 0.25 cup of all-purpose flour and stir to create a roux.

    Pour in 2 cups of heavy cream and stir well, scraping the bottom of the pan.

    Add 0.5 cup of chicken broth to the sauce and continue to stir until thickened.

    Add 0.5 bag of shredded mozzarella cheese to the sauce and stir until melted and gooey.

    Add 2 (14 oz) cans of cut green beans (drained) to the sauce and stir to coat.

    Pour the green bean mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish.

    Sprinkle the remaining 0.5 bag of mozzarella cheese over the green bean mixture.

    Top generously with crispy fried onions.

    Arrange the remaining 0.5 cup of cooked bacon over the crispy fried onions.

    Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes, or until golden brown and bubbly.
