Fluffy Sugar Donuts
A recipe for making fluffy sugar donuts from scratch, involving yeast-risen dough, frying, and a sugar coating.
Ingredients
- warm water
- granulated sugar
- active dry yeast
- whole egg
- all-purpose flour
- powdered milk
- salt
- granulated white sugar
- butter
- oil
- oil
- margarine
- sugar
Method
- 1
In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir to combine and let it sit for 10 minutes, or until bubbly.
- 2
Add the egg, all-purpose flour, powdered milk, salt, and 1 tablespoon of granulated white sugar to the yeast mixture.
- 3
Using a stand mixer with a dough hook, mix the ingredients to form a shaggy dough.
- 4
Add the softened butter to the dough.
- 5
Knead the dough for 10 minutes, or until it is smooth and elastic.
- 6
Grease the mixing bowl with 1 tablespoon of oil. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour.
- 7
After the dough has risen, punch it down and place it on a lightly floured surface.
- 8
Roll out the dough to about a 1/2-inch thickness.
- 9
Grease a donut cutter with oil or butter and cut out the donuts.
- 10
Combine the leftover dough scraps, knead them briefly, roll out, and cut more donuts.
- 11
Place the cut donuts on a floured surface, cover, and let them rise for another 25-30 minutes.
- 12
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- 13
Carefully place the donuts in the hot oil and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
- 14
Remove the donuts from the oil and let them drain.
- 15
While the donuts are still warm, brush them with melted margarine or butter.
- 16
Coat the buttered donuts in a bowl of granulated sugar.
- 17
Serve and enjoy
