Beef and Broccoli Lo Mein
A flavorful and easy-to-make takeout classic combining tender beef, fresh broccoli, and savory lo mein noodles in a rich sauce.
Ingredients
- soy sauce
- hoisin sauce
- rice wine vinegar
- honey
- toasted sesame oil
- white pepper
- onion powder
- ground ginger
- cornstarch
- water
- steak
- broccoli crowns
- onion
- garlic
- spaghetti
- cooking oil
Method
- 1
In a measuring cup or bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, ground ginger, onion powder, white pepper, sesame oil, honey, and rice wine vinegar.
- 2
In a separate small bowl, mix the cornstarch and water to create a slurry. Add the slurry to the sauce mixture and stir until well combined. Set aside.
- 3
Place the thinly sliced steak in a bowl.
- 4
Pour a portion of the prepared sauce over the steak to act as a marinade.
- 5
Let the steak marinate for 15-30 minutes.
- 6
Heat a wok or large skillet over high heat. Add a splash of cooking oil.
- 7
Once the wok is piping hot, add the marinated steak in a single layer.
- 8
Cook for a few minutes, until you see a nice sear on the meat.
- 9
Remove the cooked steak from the wok and set it aside in a bowl.
- 10
In the same wok, add the chopped onions and minced garlic. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- 11
Add the blanched broccoli florets to the wok.
- 12
Pour the remaining sauce over the broccoli and onions. Let it cook and thicken for about a minute.
- 13
Add the cooked steak back into the wok.
- 14
Add the cooked spaghetti or lo mein noodles.
- 15
Toss everything together thoroughly to ensure the noodles, beef, and broccoli are evenly coated with the sauce.
- 16
Serve immediately and enjoy.
