Crockpot Ham and Collard Greens
This crockpot dinner is a winner. I make traditional collard greens cooked low and slow with bacon, ham, and spices for the most tender greens.
Ingredients
- pre-cooked scored ham
- collard greens
- red onion
- fully cooked bacon
- garlic
- red pepper flakes
- black pepper
- onion powder
- Worcestershire sauce
- apple cider vinegar
- chicken broth
- unsalted butter
Method
- 1
Place the pre-cooked ham in the center of the slow cooker.
- 2
Add the bag of chopped collard greens around the ham.
- 3
Sprinkle the diced red onion over the collard greens.
- 4
Using kitchen shears, cut the cooked bacon into small pieces and distribute them over the ingredients in the slow cooker.
- 5
Add dollops of minced garlic around the pot.
- 6
Season generously with red pepper flakes, ground black pepper, and onion powder over all the ingredients.
- 7
Pour the Worcestershire sauce over the ham and surrounding ingredients.
- 8
Add the apple cider vinegar.
- 9
Pour in two cans of chicken broth.
- 10
Place a stick of butter on top of the ingredients.
- 11
Cover the slow cooker, set it to high, and cook for 3 hours.
- 12
After cooking, remove the lid. The greens will have cooked down significantly.
- 13
Slice the ham directly in the slow cooker.
- 14
Stir everything to combine, breaking up the ham slices.
- 15
Serve hot and enjoy.
